The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has announced that Sheffield has unfortunately lost out to Derry in its race to become the first ever UK City of Culture in 2013.
This result follows an intense bid process throughout 2009 and 2010 involving Sheffield City Council, Creativesheffield and the city’s Culture Board.

On Friday 9 July 2010, the Yorkshire Post newspaper took the unusual – and unprecedented – step of dedicating its weekly arts supplement, Culture, to one city. And that city is, of course, Sheffield.
